Our application specialists will make every effort to review and process your application within 72 hours. Please inquire by email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have not received a response. Processing times will vary based on response rate of the following parts of your application:
- Phone interview – after initial
review of your application, an application specialist will call you to discuss
your application for any questions or concerns that you or the specialist may
- Personal Reference – please make sure
you give accurate information and let your reference know an application
specialist will be calling them. Please
do not use immediate family.
- Vet Reference – please list all veterinarians
used. In most cases you will need to
call your vet to give them permission to speak with the application
specialist. If you have used a discount
clinic (example hope or nutmeg clinic or petco) please be prepared to email or
present those pages to the rescue either by email or at the home check.
- Rental/Lease/Home ownership
verification: We need to confirm that
you have permission to own the dog you are interested in:
- Rent: Please provide your landlord information so
that we may contact. You may want to
call ahead so that we are able to reach them in a timely manner. We will confirm if any breed or weight
- Lease: Please provide your leasing offer contact
information and/or be prepared to supply lease contract. If there are not specific breed and size
restrictions listed then make sure to also include the contact information so
we can complete this is a timely manner.
ownership: Please provide a form of proof which can include: house deed,
mortgage coupon book or billing notice, insurance bill as long as it shows
- Rent: Please provide your landlord information so that we may contact. You may want to call ahead so that we are able to reach them in a timely manner. We will confirm if any breed or weight restrictuions.
- Home Check: an inspection of your
home and yard. (please note that this is
for the benefit of you and the dog) This
will be with our specialist based on availability. We are not there to see that
your laundry and dishes are done, but to just overlook that your yard and home are
safe for your foster dog. For example –
an overlooked hole in your fence, or that the dog is able to open the screen
door that you own).
- Phone interview – after initial review of your application, an application specialist will call you to discuss your application for any questions or concerns that you or the specialist may have.
Dog: When a foster dog is available,
you will be contacted by the foster coordinator for availability.
An intake form will be completed by the owner who is surrendering the dog or
information will be completed based on evaluation of shelter/pound dogs. This information will be relayed to you so
that you know a little bit about the dog.
- Agreement: Foster will review and complete/sign a Foster
Agreement form. (last page of Foster
Care: This will be discussed based on
the dogs needs and appointments will be coordinated between the foster
coordinator and the foster parent. You
will also receive a copy of all veterinary paperwork available that you will
transfer upon the adoption of the dog.
Applications: We ask that foster parents
participate in the adoption of their foster dogs. We find that the foster parents create a
strong bond with their foster dog and are a vital part of the dogs
placement. Adoption applicants are
reviewed, but you will be asked to also to consult on prospective
- Adoption Follow-ups: We do have a
designated person to perform adoption followups but we do encourage our foster
parents to participate as well.
